Why You Need to Vet Your Builder or Home Remodeler
Choosing a home remodeler or builder is not so different than entering a relationship. You want it to be fun without too much drama, and get the results you’re looking for.
In our last article we talked about the ‘12 Big Questions’ we should all be asking before embarking on a project. If you haven’t seen that yet, head over here and check it out. This covers a lot of the bases.
But we want to reinforce a few things here, so read on as well to learn just a bit more about why we think it’s so important to the success of any project, large or small.
Why You Need to Vet Your Builder or Home Remodeler
In our last blog post, we thought it would be helpful to talk about some of the most common questions that we’ve discovered are important over the years. These are the kinds of questions that we would want our moms to ask a builder if she was going to have something done in her house, and should be easily answered by a builder or a designer who's building and designing stuff. That way, you can get a sense of their level of competence and experience and gauge their ability to do the job - BEFORE you start.
A1DesignBuild has been building homes and doing remodels in Whatcom County for 70+ years. That’s a long time. But even now, we need to remind ourselves that it is our job and responsibility to answer these questions for our clients. Again and again. Because many of our clients have never embarked on a big project, and we need to make sure they feel comfortable with not only what we’re planning to do, but with the timeline and budget as well. Just like when we buy a car or a bike or a computer or something we're not familiar with, when we go into the store and we don't have a lot of knowledge, we can feel uncomfortable. Or intimidated by salespeople. But if we do it right, and really answer ALL the questions you have, you can make your choice with confidence.
If the people or companies you are considering working with can’t answer your questions, you know you should probably look elsewhere. It’s really that simple. Do not allow yourself to be made to feel like you should already know the answers, and don’t be afraid to ask, no matter how basic the questions may seem. You are the one in control, and you are the one that the builder needs to please - not the other way around.
So our list is a good place to start. Check it out. And ask away!
It’s that important.
