THE IDEA

We have worked with the Family Resources Center at Shuksan Middle School on a few projects now… This past spring, while Justus Peterson (coop member and our estimating manager and Alderwood PTA President and awesome father, husband and coach) and Mike Feeney, (designer extraordinaire, architect, coop member in training and Tiny house on wheels builder), were at the Family Resource center helping out with installing a portable wall/curtain to contain the stash of supplies donated to local families in need. (More about that and Title 1 Schools here…) They noticed quite a few new mattresses that had been donated…but none of them had bed frames…thus another opportunity to lend a hand to local families fell in our lap; design and build bed frames for families in need that would fit the mattress sitting in storage.

Maggie Bates, a founding coop member and our design team manager, as well as author, and amazing multi-media artist and horse trainer, and Mike put together a simple yet elegant design. Justus reached out to Dick Campbell, owner of Bellingham Millwork to ask for a discount on materials to build 10 beds and instead he donated materials for 11 beds and 11 benches. Thanks Dick and team for your unending support of our community efforts.
